Cheapest way to get an iPhone 6S
For the purpose of this article we compared the costs of owning a iPhone 6S 16GB on all of the major UK network carriers; EE, Giffgaff, 02, Three, TPO, Virgin Mobile, and Vodaphone, on billpay, monthly pay, and prepay plans.
Option 1: Prepay or 30-Day Contracts
This option includes buying the phone up front, but overall, leads to dramatic savings over the course of the contract.
Step 1. Purchase the whole phone at once.
It may be hard to pay for an iPhone all at once, but if you can afford it we highly recommend it. Buying your phone all upfront could save you a few hundred in long run. Usually when mobile companies sell a phone through a contract they charge less upfront but charge more for the phone than what it is actually worth over time.
Step 2. Look at the chart and select a plan that suits your needs best.
The cheapest phone plans for different data (GB) allowances across the major UK mobile networks are shown in the table below.
When you look at the chart first look for plans that have a GB allowance of how much data you use each month.
If you're not sure how much data you use here's a link to find out how much.
Then, look at the "Total Cost per GB" to find out which plan gives you the most GB per pound.
The lower the "Total Cost per GB" is, the lower you are paying per GB. However, this does not necessarily mean that your 24 month cost will be lower because even though you are paying less per GB, you are paying for a significant more amount of GB's allowed per month. Also you likely won't need all those extra GB even though they are a good value - remember that most users don't go over 5GB per month in the UK.
The "Phone Cost" column in the chart for "30 Day Pay" and "Prepay Plans" is for the iPhone 6S 16GB if it were to be purchased from Amazon, at a price of £499.

Option 2- Bill Pay
With Bill Pay plans you pay a lower amount upfront for your device, but in the long run, your overall cost may be higher.
Most of the contracts in the UK are 24-month contracts - remember that your data usage will increase over the next two years - so budget high. While average use in the UK is now 5GB per month, we'd expect average GB usage to increase over the next two years to 11GB.
