Its been a busy few weeks at KillBiller HQ. Some of the promotion work that we've been engaged in has paid off in several high-profile media appearances for KillBiller. The word is spreading, and we are seeing the effects of word-of-mouth marketing on our download figures and website visitors. We've officially passed the 5,000 mark on the Google Play store, and we have over 600 people now signed up and waiting for our upcoming iPhone release. Our media coverage included:
The Irish Independent
"Mobile savings: Change network to reduce your bill by €500"
One of our most high profile appearances was on the front page, and in the Switching Supplement of the Irish Independent on Saturday 7th February. The Independent has a circulation of over 100,000 readers which provided a great opportunity to get the word out on our phone comparison application and plans for the future. Charlie Weston, the Independent's personal finance correspondent gave his thoughts on our application and on the state of mobile phone plans in Ireland.
The KillBiller application is free to download on to your phone. It burrows into your phone and assesses your phone usage. It then tells you what you would spend on all available plans, with your own network or another operator.
You can read Charlie's article here. This article provided a great deal of nationwide coverage for KillBiller, and puts us one step closer to our aim to become a household name for mobile plan and network comparison.
"This startup wants to help you find the cheapest phone deal possible"
Quinton O'Reilly, the technical correspondent of the widely read news and current events website, theJournal.ie, interviewed Shane recently. Also on the 7th of February, Quinton published a comprehensive on KillBiller as a company, our progress over the end of 2014, and our plans for expansion into the future. There was a really positive response to the application from the public in the article comments, and a great level of detail in the write-up.
By analysing 70% of your phone calls, text and data usage, it (KillBiller) can help you figure out the most cost-effective plan for you, helping you save money in the long-term.
Coverage on theJournal.ie is brilliant for our application since a large proportion of readers access the content on their mobile device, so direct conversions to app downloads were plentiful.
Joe.ie and Her.ie
"Going home in the dark and everyone is asleeep... you have to wonder... are we mad? - Joe's interview with KillBiller
Coverage on both of these popular websites arose from our involvement with the AIB Startup Academy in 2015. Maximum Media, the media company behind joe.ie and it's partner, her.ie, are profiling each of the companies that are finalists in the AIB competition over the coming weeks. This article was a opportunity to both showcase the capabilities of our service, and also to demonstrate some of the personality behind our brand.
The app lets you compare every option, choose a new plan, switch to a new network, and save potentially hundreds of euro per year.
You can read the articles here and here. Both joe.ie and her.ie are widely read and very active on social media, these articles definitely brought our product to the attention of their readers on both Twitter and Facebook.
Matt Cooper on Today FM
"Mobile phones are difficult, they are really difficult. There are so many plans out there."
Charlie Weston, from the Irish Independent, again spoke about KillBiller, saving money on plans, and the fact that a lot of people are on the wrong plan on Matt Coopers "The Last Word". Radio, as we discussed in our recent blog post on handling traffic surges, is a fantastic way to spread the word to new users quickly.
You and I could use the exact same amount of usage, you might use the same number of texts, and the same data. I could be paying €25 euro a month, you could be paying €75!
